BREAD & BUTTER PICKLES

Wow! What a Hot summer in Okla. It's been the hottest on record. This morning I'm making Bread & Butter Pickles with our Organic cucumbers, onion, & bell peppers. The 2 large containers are filled with cucumbers, onions & peppers & set in cold salt brine for 3 hours. I'll rinse them & than add to boiling vinegar, sugar, & spices. They're a favorite with my 2 grown daughters & a good seller at
the farmers market. We also ship. Our farmers market has been pretty slim pickins this year due to the heat. People don't understand the obtacles we face so I'm going to share this story. I don't have a irrigation system. I was discussing this with a producer & he said they pump water from a pond and us T tape irrigation. The field rats are so thirsty they have chewed holes in the pipe to drink. He said the frogs, birds, insects are bunched around it also. I planted fall green beans & there is not enough sub-soil moisture for them to germinate & come up s-o I'm dragging the hose around watering it. I've been dragging the hoses around since June. I think in the Spring you'll probably see food prices rise alot unless the extreme weather in the US settles down. All responses are welcome. Let me know whats going on in your heck of the woods. Back to these PICKLES & DRAGGING THE HOSE AROUND. Be Safe.
